Abstract: |
Objective To investigate the effect of blood glucose concentration on 18-FDG uptaking in brain PET/CT scans. Methods 70 patients who underwent whole-body and head PET/CT imaging in our hospital during January 2014 to December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed.Blood glucose of all patients was determined before scanning, and patients were divided into control group, slightly high blood glucose group and high blood glucose group.Visual analysis and semi quantitative analysis were adopted to analyze PET images and maximum standard uptake values were calculated according to cerebellar cortex as reference area. Results Blood glucose gradually increased following the sequence of control group, slightly high blood glucose group and high blood glucose group, the difference being statistically significant(F = 200.369,P<0.05) and in the meantime,SUVmax of cerebellar cortex gradually decreased, the difference being statistically significant(F = 14.207,P<0.05).Comparing high blood glucose group with control group or slightly high blood glucose group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),but comparing slightly high blood glucose group with control group, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The brain uptake of 18-FDG was negatively correlated to blood glucose concentration. Conclusion High blood glucose interferes with brain uptake of 18-FDG and influences PET/CT imaging,so blood glucose concentration should be controlled within a reasonable range before PET/CT examination |
